About Us

The Beijing Meijiang Education Foundation (abbreviated as Meijiang Foundation), incorporated on September 2, 2005 and operating under the supervision of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, was registered with the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau as a non-public funding foundation.

In 2005, Ms. Wang Xiaomei, the president of the Meijiang Foundation, initiated the foundation’s first project---Meijiang Foundation Spring Bud Girls Class. There were 53 Uygur girls in the class, all from destitute peasant or herdsman families in Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture. The courses for this boarding class were conducted in bilingual with mandarin as major language. Meijiang Foundation found caring individuals who cared the girls on a one to one basis. Besides financially support the girls on long-term basis, these individuals also communicate with the beneficiary girls by writing them letters and talk to them on the phone. Some even take the trouble travelling all the way to Xinjiang Autonomous Region to visit and encourage them. The project, ever since its initiation, has been spoken well of by the local government and people from all walks of live. As a result, more and more people joined in. Now this project has become a featured one of Meijiang Foundation.

Upholding the principle of “Passing on Love, and Planting Hope,” the Meijiang Foundation has, besides the above mentioned “One to One Subsidization” Project, initiated a series of education-aid projects, including the Breakfast Project, the Health Project, the Meijiang Scholarship, the Meijiang Library, the College Student Scholarship, in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Tibet, Sichuan Province, Beijing, Fujian Province, and Jiangshu Province. Tens of Thousands of students of Uygur, Kyrgyz, Tibetan, She, and Han descents have benefited from such projects and successfully completed their studies.

The work of the Meijiang Foundation has drawn a great deal of social response. The ‘One to One’ Subsidization Classes that Meijiang set up in border areas has encouraged cooperation between families of the Han ethnic majority and other ethnic groups existing in China, creating a positive movement toward strengthening national unity, fight against separative and disruptive activities, and maintain social stability. The activities of Meijiang Foundation were reported on by such media as China Central TV (CCTV), the Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong Wenweipo, and Xinjiang Daily. Dignitaries who spoke very highly of the contribution of the Meijiang Foundation, and gladly wrote inscriptions for Meijiang include Mr. Wang Lequan, Deputy Secretary of Politics and Law Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and then Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Mr. Zhang Qingli, then Secretary of the Party Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region, Mr. Lu Hao, Secretary of Party Committee of Gansu Province, and Mr. Qiang Wei, Secretary of Party Committee of Qinghai Province. In May 2011, Mr. Zhang Chunxian, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, met with the visiting staff of the Meijiang Foundation, and he praised what the Meijiang Foundation has achieved and encouraged us to do more.

With honesty and sincerity, The Meijiang Foundation has built up a bridge of love between caring people and families from the destitute regions. While recognized by the society, The Meijiang Foundation has also been acknowledged by governmental authorities as well. It was awarded the rights to pre-tax deduction pro bono donations in 2008; in October 2010, it was listed as a 4A social organization and an exemplary base for social organizations in Beijing. Wang Xiaomei, the President of the Meijiang Foundation, was awarded “Advanced Worker of Beijing Social Organization” in 2009 and 2011 jointly by Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Personnel.

By the end of 2012, the Meijiang Foundation has received donations of 64.3344 million RMB, in which monetary donations amounting to 60.9147 million RMB and material donations worth of 3.4197 million RMB. In the future, the Meijiang Foundation will continue to strengthen management, operate diligently and economically, and continue to uphold ‘One to One Subsidization’ donation patterns. The Meijiang Foundation will also enhance fund raising while fully respecting the will of the donors, set up specific donation plans, and provide accessible channels to those desiring to fulfill social obligations. The Meijiang Foundation will also make sure that donated funds are provided to those who truly need help.

In line with the Chinese saying, ‘it takes ten years to grow trees, but a hundred years to cultivate people,’ the Meijiang Foundation sincerely hopes to work with other enterprises, social organizations and individuals from home and abroad in joint efforts to help Chinese children build the future. Working closely with each concerned donor, we help children from border areas and impoverished regions, knowing that even one concerned individual can transform the life of one or more unprivileged child.
